Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The number of new apprentices has fallen by 30% this year according to the Engineering Training Authority. This is reflected in the number of apprentice HGV techni cians expected on RTITB courses.

When the latest scheme was announced the RTITB expected applications from small workshops employing a single apprentice. Fewer than expected have done so but larger companies are continuing to send personnel.

John Searle, Wincanlon's training manager, says the move back to apprenticeships is good for the industry but agrees that he is putting on fewer people this year. -It's a process of consolidation where the people we have in unstructured training are transferring to the formal courses."
