• The John Dee company was given a further three-months lease of life this week when John Davison was awarded a fresh interim 0-licence by North East Licensing Authority Frederick Whalley. Davison had met a requirement to come up with a cash injection for his company by the end of September.
Davison's bid for a full licence for 116 vehicles and 250 trailers will be heard by Whalley on 31 October. At a previous hearing, the LA postponed his decision to allow Davison — former boss of the crashed John Dee Group — to come up with adequate funds (CM 12-18 Sept).
Davison's licence applications in four other Traffic Areas are likely to be heard after the North-East inquiry.
The Road Haulage Association is opposing the 0-licence application, alleging that Davison and his firm do not have sufficient financial backing.
