Castro! pays • Castro! (UK) has been ordered to pay £91.20 compensation to redundant lorry driver Rodney Stocks, after a Manchester industrial tribunal ruled that the company had acted unreasonably in refusing to allow him time off to look for a new job.
Increase refused • North Eastern Deputy Licensing Authority Brian Homer has refused to increase the licence authorisation of Eric Elliott Transport, Gotham, from 15 to 20 vehicles, following opposition from Nottinghamshire County Council and local residents (CM 12-18 Sept).
Tacho charges • Middleton, North Manchester magistrates have adjourned the case against William West (Ilkeston) which is accused of failing to keep and produce tachograph charts and permitting drivers to break the 41 hour driving rule.
Overload appeal • Clifford Connolly of Ballymoney, Co Antrim is to appeal against two overloading convictions imposed by Fleetwood magistrates. He pleaded not guilty to overloading a 38-tonne artic by 3,500kg and 4,180kg at Dock Street, Fleetwood, but was fined £1,000 with £507 costs.
