• Volvo is expected to unveil a new midibus chassis, the B6R, at this month's Coach & Bus exhibition in Birmingham.
The Workington-based manufacturer is being guarded about the development, but Falkirkbased bodybuilder Walter Alexander is thought to be working on a 9.8m midi for the six-litre B6R. Tayside giant Stagecoach is believed to be ordering about 300 new midibuses this year, split between the Volvo B6R and the Dennis Dart. Volvo is expected to produce the B6R alongside its other midi, the 25-38seater Leyland Swift, which is primarily used for welfare work. A total of 350 Swifts have been made since they were introduced four years ago.
The B6R is likely to target the midibus market competing against the Dart, which has reached a total production of more than 750 since its launch just over two years ago,
