• Temporary drivers' agency Overdrive is being merged with another Manpower subsidiary, Extrastaff, to form Manpower Driving Services. Extrastaff provides staff, including truck drivers, to the industrial sector.
The company says no jobs will be lost, although some Overdrive branches will be closed. The new division will have 2,000 drivers on its books.
A 24-hour service is being started and indemnity for fraud or dishonesty by Manpower temporary drivers is being increased from £10,000 to £50,000.
More transport companies are involved in warehousing and logistics, says Manpower marketing manager Tony Cram, and it makes sense for customers to ring one number and get a "driver and a person to put data into stock records.
"Manpower is also the name we trade under across Europe and it was only in the UK that we were using the separate Overdrive name for drivers," says Cram.
