Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• There will be no more job losses or depot closures at BRS, and the company's restructuring will be complete in 18 months, according to managing director Steve Abel.

Opening a BRS depot in Banbury, his last official function before becoming director of charitable body NFC in the Corn munity, Abel said the merger of Tankfreight, BRS Automotive and the rest of BRS was "moving ahead all right".

BRS announced Abel's move and the phasing out of its five regions to form a single national company in June (CM 20-26 June). Last October BRS began closing 16 depots in a rationalisation programme.

The Banbury depot, two minutes from the M40, replaces a site in the centre of Banbury. Abel says the move means 500 fewer truck movements a day in the town. The £150,000 premises will employ 120 staff and have a turnover of £6m.

Abel, who has been with BRS since 1960, promises a "number of regional initiatives" from NFC in the Community. Graham Roberts will replace Abel as BRS managing director.
