/ The recession has stalled Nightshift Express' plans to increase its franchise network. It is now looking to Italy to improve its profits.
Nightshift managing director Barry Copeland is setting up an Italian groupage business, called Transaction European, with its Irish agent Intel. Transaction should be operational by the end of October. It will run a fleet of trailers and will use ownerdrivers exclusively.
"Intel already does a lot of work out of Italy," says Copeland. "It works for Olivetti computers and several other major companies and we want to set up a triangular system from Ireland to Italy to England and back to Ireland. Intel has been doing 10 groupage loads a week out to Italy and we run five loads a week to Ireland. It makes sense to integrate everything and cut out empty running," he says.
