AM EY BID FOR VICTORY
• United Freight Holdings Ltd.. a subsidiary of United Transport Ltd.. has bought J. and A. Smith of Maddiston Ltd., it was announced on Wednesday. The acquisition involves the road transport and storage interests of Smith. which operates throughout the UK and on the Continent. Meanwhile, a bid for Victory Transport .Ltd.
• has been made by the Amey Group.
The United takeover involves the purchase of the issued share capital in the Smith companies for £1,047,500 in cash with buy-back arrangements for certain activities unconnected with the transport interests. The company operates 350 vehicles and will continue to be managed jointly by Mr. James Smith and Mr. Alexander Smith.
The bid for Victory by Amey Group is in the form of a share exchange. The Victory board has recommended acceptance.
If the deal is approved by the shareholders, the Victory Transport fleet of 139 vehicles will augment the 1,000 plus Amey Group fleet. Mr. H. J. Baker, director and secretary of Victory Transport told CM on Wednesday that 85 vehicles would be complementary to the present transport and distribution work done by Ameys. The rest of the fleet was involved in general haulage and continental container work.
