• Cummins Engine Co. Inc., announced last week that it has agreed to buy out Chrysler Corporation from its joint British operation, Chrysler-Cummins Ltd., at Darlington.
The Darlington plant which was erected in 1964, the year after Chrysler-Cummins was formed, is the principal production facility for the new 140-185 hp V engines. At present 80 per cent of the output is exported to Cummins customers in international markets. Adjacent to this plant is a components manufacturing
plant already wholly owned by Cummins.
The ability to integrate the operations of the two plants, it is said, will aid Cummins in the further development of UK and international markets. At the same time, Chrysler will continue to use Cummins as a source of these engines in the UK and overseas.
The present deputy managing director of Chrysler-Cummins, Mr. J. Patrick, will, now be responsible for the operation of both Darlington plants and is appointed to the board of Cummins Engine Co.
