. READ WITH INTEREST this veek's article on Polish drivers .CM20 January). I interviewed ;ix English drivers for a position Nhich requires regular runs to the ;ame customers every week on a ;et day —nothing too difficult once familiar with the drops.

All six told me at length how lexible they were and really fan:died the job. We then got to my requirement to do two nights out in one week three times a year. To my surprise, this was too much to ask and the aforementioned flexibility went out the window.

Enter our friend from Poland. The driver in question came on an overnight coach, at his own expense, from Dublin, where he was on a three-month contract, just for an interview.

Now I am sure that there are drivers out there who would go to such lengths to obtain suitable employment but I have come across many who would not come from the other side of town, let alone Dublin.

Maybe I have just been lucky, but my new driver is a peach; hardworking, speaks good English and polite to customers.
