MANY drivers, no doubt, are quite happy to earn a living pottering up and down the Ml. But I'm sure at least two of the drivers employed by P and H Transport would find this type of work tame indeed after one of their recent trips.
Their job was to haul a tube-finishing machine—made by Accles and Pollock for Simon-Carves—to Polotskis, a spot some 200 miles east of Leningrad.
The first part of their journey was on board the m.v. Norwind on North Sea Ferries' Hull/Rotterdam (Europoort) service. From then on, for Messrs. Spooner and Barnett it was a case of "push on for Polotskis" in their Commer/York outfit.
