THE Road Transport Industry Training Board is to make a random survey of present training facilities for road haulage, passenger operation and motor vehicle repair.
Between 4,000 and 5,000 questionnaires are being sent out asking for information on the number of "man-days" of training carried out M categories such as management, clerical, supervisory, operational, maintenance and bank staff.
To facilitate completion of the questionnaires, Mr. J. M. Carlin, secretary of RTITB, emphasized that only the minimum information necessary had been requested.
Until the current cost of training was known a grant scheme to benefit the industry as a whole could not be set up. In asking for details of current expenditure it was appreciated that accurate costs might not be available, in which case reasonable estimates would be acceptable.
The Board, Mr. Carlin revealed to COMMERCIAL MOTOR, had not yet taken a firm decision as to when a grant scheme could be set up but at its meeting next Wednesday close consideration would be given to whether this could not be done before the end of 1967. The return of adequate information on the questionnaires was crucial to such a decision.
