THE AEC factory at Southall has begun pilot production of a new additional engine range to meet the ever-growing demand for more power, says Leyland Motor Corporation Ltd. chairman Sir William Black in a statement on the 1966 report and accounts.
Leyland's two specialist coach bodybuilders, Park Royal Vehicles and Charles H. Roe, maintained full order books throughout the year (ending September 30) but their output was limited by scarcity of skilled labour and shortage of chassis.
Sir William says that during the year Leyland substantially increased its financial participation in ENASA in Spain, where it will have 25 per cent of the equity.
The corporation has started building a new assembly factory in Peru and has extended its facilities in Zambia and Tanzania.
"We have in mind making further investments in production facilities in Belgium. This we think is good policy, whether or not we become members of the Common Market," says Sir William.
