Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THERE has just been formed the IL Manchester Meat Carriers Association, membership of which comprises and is open to meat carriers from the abattoirs in Manchester.

It appears that they have been experiencing a great amount of competition from C-licence holders, who, it is alleged, are carrying meat for other butchers in their locality, as well as from butchers who transport their meat by means of a trailer behind a private car. Professional carriers contend that these trailers, when carrying goods, should be licensed.

The new Association hopes to devise a system whereby the rates for carry

log meat from the abattoirs to the various districts around Manchester will be stabilized.

There is also functioning in Liverpool an organization of comparatively recent formation known as the Liverpool and District • Meat Carriers Association, which has been less concerned with haulage rates than with the serious losses brought about as a result of pilferage.

As claims have been made against carriers for such losses, the hauliers as a measure of self protection, have suggested to the meat wholesalers that they should not permit unauthorized persons to undertake porterage.
