Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

At a recent meeting of the watch committee of Morecambe Corporation, Mr. Myres, chairman of directors, and Major H. E. Hickmott, managing director, of Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., attended, and discussion took place upon a number of points in connection with public-service vehicles, special attention being paid to the proposal to provide a general bus station on the Poulton Hall site. The object is tl avoid the congestion and danger in Queen's Square, which, in the opinion of the committee, is no longer adequate to cope with the present-day requirements. Mr. Myres and Major Hickmott promised to give consideration to the proposal and afterwards viewed the site.

Great North Road Widening.

The proposal for the widening of the Great North Road on the narrow sections south of Stevenage and to Baldock has been approved in principle. Hertfordshire County Council is now preparing details of the scheme. Necessaryland has been acquired and it is anticipated that the work will be commenced early in the New Year.

Tyre Salesman Required.

A good position with adequate remuneration is available for a tyre salesman thoroughly versed in tyre technicalities and having an intimate knowledge of municipal-transport officials and their requirements. Only first-class men need apply. Letters should be addressed "Tyre Salesman," care of .the Editor of this journal.

A Presentation to Sir William Morris.

The employees of the Morris organization recently presented to Sir William Morris a portrait of himself by Sir Arthur Stockland Cope, RA. The actual presentation was made by Mr. Alfred Keen, who was .one of the original employees in the service of Sir William—then Mr.—Morris, when he started building motorcycles in Oxford. The presentation is certainly an indication of the happy relationship existing between the employers and employees of the Morris organization.

A Licence Appeal at Gloucester.

A Ministry of Transport inquiry was held at Gloucester on December 17th to decide whether a licence should be granted to Mr. George Gammon, of Ross, to run buses between Gloucester and Hereford. The town clerk of Gloucester said the city council came to the decision last September that sufficient buses were being run to Hereford and that existing services were being run efficiently. The result of the inquiry will be announced later.

Absorbing Midland Bus Concerns.

Associated Bus Companies, Ltd., a company which has been formed for the purpose of acquiring the businesses of members of the Associated North Staffs Bus Proprietors who desire to sell, has asked the Stoke-on-Trent authorities to permit the various licences to be endorsed in its name. The committee

agreed, but decided the concern be informed that, in future, before transactions are completed, proposals of this nature must be submitted for consideration by the committee.

Sternol Interim Dividend.

Sternol, Ltd., has declared a second interim dividend at the rate of 8 per cent. per annum on the preference-share capital of the company in respect of the six months ending December 31st Vehicle Registrations in September.

The Minister of Transport has just issued a return giving particulars of the number of motor vehicles registered for the first time under the Reads Act (1920) during the month of September. The number registered was 17,121, as compared with 14,905 in September, 1928. The total includes 4,330 goods . vehicles and 590 hackney vehicles.

Leyland Titans for U.A.S.

We recently intimated that United Automobile Services, Ltd., had acquired 25 Leyland Titan buses, and we now learn that the Blyth authorities recommend that the vehicles should be licensed. Should these licences be issued they will replace those for other vehicles.

llius Stands in Blyth.

The licensing committee of Blyth Corporation has appointed a sub-committee to consider the practicability and/or desirability of the de-centralization of the several bus stands. The sub-committee is also to report upon the question of establishing stands in other parts Of the borough and is to confer on the matter with the superintendent of police.
