Transport have been charged with manslaughter, following a fatal motorway accident last year. CM reported in February that police had interviewed four directors of the Slough family airfreight haulier, including chairman Royston Bowles—a serving magistrate and former Road Haulage Association chairman—in connection with suspected drivers' hours offences (CM 12-18 Feb). But this week police confirmed that three of the four will now face manslaughter charges at Grays magistrates court on 10 June. It is not known if Royston Bowles is one of the three.

The accident, involving a Roy Bowles lorry, happened on 16 October between J29-30 of the M25. Two men died. The driver was due in court yesterday (Wednesday) charged with causing death by dangerous driving. ) In January Newcastle Crown Court threw out a manslaughter case against Eric Preston of Fewston Transport; and a case against Brian Nobes and Susan Morgan of catering firm SCM collapsed at Maidstone Crown Court (CM 5-11 Feb).
