futures after North Wales Police handed over management of its recovery scheme to the AA. Only 14 of the 155 recovery operators used by the police have been taken on by the AA.
Local operator Gwyn Evans says he knows of one who will lose £3,000 a month. Evans is also concerned about safety because "distances travelled by operators to accidents could be 30 rather than three miles".
But Andrew Bevan, AA business manager for police contracts, says only 45 of the 155 operators asked to be considered for work. Criteria include training and high insurance cover. "I do not envisage increases in recovery charges for hauliers," he adds.
