Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

version of its Comet rigid truck chassis designed for overseas applications. The last version of the Comet was introduced in 1985: most of the annual production of around 200 chassis has been sold into Africa, though the Comet has also been seen as far afield as South America and China.

The latest Comet retains its predecessor's straightforward chassis frame and Cummins BSeries engine (a Daf option has been dropped), but much of the rest has been improved or changed. The cab is now the C44 type, also seen on Leyland Daf's 45/55 Series; gearboxes have been changed, axles have been uprated and electrics are now 24V on all models.

Leyland admits that the trucks are likely to endure routine overloading ("quoted maximum gross vehicle weights are for guidance only") but the plated GVW of the 4x2 models has been increased from 12 and 16 tonnes to 14 and 17 tonnes. The 6x4 Super Comet is unchanged at 24 tonnes.

The Comet and Super Comet look like simplified versions of the Daf 45s and 55s, which is understandable given the nearidentical cab. The only obvious differences are the high groundclearance, grille styling and the absence of a tachograph.

Comets are sold in most markets through Leyland Exports, an independent marketing company which offers a "one-stop shop" for complete vehicles and packages of vehicles, and has servicing outlets in more than 40 countries.
