using the cab from the middleweight Atego—in the UK in early 1999, after showing them at the Hanover show this autumn. Mercedes-Benz (UK) has been offered eightwheelers with the Actros cab, but the company is holding out for an Atego cab, which it believes is more appropriate for the UK market. This looks to be about 18 months away.
• Muncie is a relatively new name in the UK: Driveline Systems has been distributing the Indiana firm's PTOs in Britain for 18 months. The Super Duty model, designed primarily for Eaton/Fuller boxes, can transmit up to 57kW for heavy applications such as blower drives. Muncie also manufactures polyethylene hydraulic fluid tanks.
• Although Cummins restricted its TipCon stand to a ReCon engine display there were plenty of its new units on show in chassis including the latest 235hp version of the eight-litre C-Series in the Foden Alpha 17-tanner. Further up the range the Alpha has the popular M11 which comes with a maximum 410hp rating in the in the new 3000 tractor.
