CLAIMS that Londoners favour a supplementary licensing system to control traffic flows into central London are "arrant nonsense" according to the British Road Federation.
Commenting last week on a GLC claim that a recent survey showed there was "no avalanche of opposition" to the concept of supplementary ,licensing (CM, March 19), BRF Movement for London secretary Jeremy Hawksley said only 98 replies were received after 11,000 GLC booklets were circulated.
Of these, 47 came from organisations and 25 from individuals, and he added: "By weighting individuals' replies in the same way as organisations' — some of whom have millions of members — GLC transport committee chair Dave Wetzel is able to claim that there is support for further measures to control traffic."
