VHY DOES BREAKFAST on the rain cost about £7 when an almost identical meal can be had for El .98 at the Mernbury service area on M4? What's more, the motorway traveller has the choice of a free newspaper to read while eating, and the first 100 customers on 10 special days in March, April and May will receive a petrol voucher worth 50p.
The breakfast comprises fruit juice, two eggs, bacon, sausage, tomatoes and fried bread, toast and butter, and unlimited supply of tea or coffee. The price and quality of motorway catering generally make me wince, but Motocross has shown that it need not be a revolting rip-off.
