• Business is booming for Freight Rover, the Birmingham-based light vehicle manufacturer, which has just increased van production by more than 20%.
The company changed hands early last year when Daf merged with Leyland. During the past two weeks, Freight Rover has boosted output of Sherpa vans and minibuses by 5% with weekly production rising from 436 vehicles to 458 vehicles, supported by an agreement with the 2,000strong workforce. By the end of June, this will have risen to 550 vehicles a week.
The plant is working at single-shift capacity of 21,500 vehicles a year, but expects this to increase to 24,000 later this year.
Freight Rover attributes its boom to several new major contracts and an increase in retail orders since the restructuring of its dealer network.
