• The Swedish Airforce is leasing a new rescue vehicle with a Scania chassis design.
Specified for rescue work on airfields, the 14-tonner is based on an all-wheel-drive Scania P92HK 4 x4 with automatic gearbox and anti-lock brakes.
Features include a crew cab and a plough mounting at the front. The insulated and heated Norwegian body from Fjeldhus Bruk contains fire fighting and rescue equipment, and the twin foam tank system has a capacity of 2,200 litres, A hydrostatically driven pump feeds the extinguisher fluid to a spray gun on the roof; it is controlled by a joystick in the cab.
The lire fighting gun has a capacity of 1,600 litres a minute and a range of 50 metres. Trials on the vehicle will last until 1989.
