• A buyer is expected to be announced this week for AW Biker, the controversial Yorkshire quarry haulier which went into receivership last month.
The receiver, BDO Binder Hamlyn, is expecting to sell all of the £1.5 million turnover company, which is believed to have some work with British Steel, as a going concern. It hopes that all 15 drivers will be included — despite the fact that last week 12 of them had their HGV driving licences suspended for one month.
Although about 10 companies have shown interest in the Leyburn-based operator, which trades as Bikers of Bedale, Binder Harnlyn believes enthusiasm has been dampened by the company's reputation. Managing director Anthony Biker was jailed in May for nine months and the company fined £27,000 for falsification of tachographs.
Biker was jailed shortly after British Steel is thought to have pulled out of awarding Bikers a controversial 60-lorry-a-day contract on a 35km route between Redmire Quarry and Red car Steelworks.
The drivers who had their driving licences suspended had been involved in falsification of tachograph charts.
