Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• When will we British learn that the only way to stop the French using force against the legitimate practices of free trade will be to try playing them at their own game?

In the past few days we've seen them viciously attack our trucks (and fishing boats) without so much of an "excusez-moi" at the end of it. It seems that the French authorities are unable, or unwilling, to keep their countrymen in order.

Should we not complain about the first French-carried backload we see going out through Dover by stopping the truck, dragging the driver out and refusing to let him go further? While I would rule out the needless violence and destruction so often employed by the French, should we not organise the press to record the incident so that the picture is digested over the Channel?

Taking the law into your own hands would be merely to emulate the French, the best sanction must take place at governmental level — Ed.
