• French-backed Opale Ferries starts a new freight service between Folkestone and Boulogne this week.
The 50-truck ferry Marine Evangeline, will fill the gap left by Sealink Stena when it pulled out of the route last year. Opale managing director Jean Tonneau expects annual traffic of 35,000 units on the route.
A British group, made up of ex-Sealink seafarers, had wanted to run the service but the French found backing first.
