National Freight Corporation company Western British Road Services has announced two senior management promotions.

Brian Buckley has been appointed distribution director for Western BRS. He joined the company in 1969 as operations manager for the British district and in January, 1976, he became distribution manager. Mr Buckley is a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport as well as being an associate of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries.

The other man on the move at Western BRS is Gordon North. He has been appointed a director with special responsibility for general haulage operations. Mr North joined BRS in 1949 as a junior clerk and spent periods at parcels depots in Leeds, Boston and Sheffield before becoming Harrogate branch manager in 1965. Two years later he transferred to Warrington branch and then in 1969 he went to Western BRS at its Bristol branch. In November, 1974, Mr North moved to the Avonmouth branch where he is currently general manager. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport.

Another NEC subsidiary, National Carriers, has lost one of its directors. He is Bernard Warner, group director of planning and development at NCL.

Mr Warner left the company in order to develop his own interests in consultancy, writing and lecturing. He joined NCL back in 1974, primarily to assist the company in becoming profitable. NCL's Chinaflow and Fashionflow operations are two of the projects that Mr Warner worked on.

Eric Perry is the depot manager at the new Sheffield depot of Manchester Tankers, which is again part of the NFC.

As a director he is now responsible for the group's new depot at Leigh in Lancashire, where he will control Marshall's haulage, groupage services to Ireland, Continental services and distribution, Trailer manufacturer Crane Fruehauf has announced the appointment of Tom Lynchy as group manufacturing director. Mr Lynchy, who was formerly general manager at the Murex division at the British Oxygen Company, will be based at the Crane Fruehauf offices in Dereham, Norfolk.

The rental company of another major trailer manufacturer, York, has also made a new appointment.

Roy Smith has joined York Rentals as national sales manager. He comes from the continental shipping line, Contship, and was with another trailer rental company, Transport International Pool, before that.
