NATIONAL Carriers has ch lenged a survey which claim that many small carriers I not increase their prices 1978. It says that all natio' operators put up their rates up to 18 per cent.
The challenge follows a si vey by Freight Informati Services of Southport in whi one transport buyer claim that NCL rates were except nally low.
The survey was based on interviews; 10 with haulie including one with a sma carrier, and seven transpc buyers.
The one — anonymous buyer also claimed that N( had not raised its rates in 19 but had made a five per ce increase in rates in Janua this year.
But this week N( managing director Brian Ha ward told CM that the coi pany had made two applic tions to the Prices Commissio for increases of eight and ni: per cent respectively and h; raised its rates in line with ti rest of the industry.
Mr Hayward added: "C this basis the survey is inacc rate and can only cause sma carriers embarrassment wh( dealing with customers wl are fully aware that their rat have been increased."
