THE TRANSPORT am General Workers' Union' executive council has voted ii Bill Morris as deputy genera secretary. Morris, who ha been national secretary of th union's passenger service group since 1979, heat Larr: Smith, TGWU executiv officer, by 20 votes to 17.
Until the middle of nex year Morris will work ii tandem with Alex Kitson who will then retire. He the first black person to attail such a powerful positio: within the British trade union movement.
In addition to his union jo. jamaican-born Morris i chairman of the complaint committee of the Commis sion for Racial Equality.
