Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ASIMPLE centrifugal oil filter of Continental origin is now available in this country from Vandervell Products, Ltd., Western Avenue, London, W.3. The filter, which is normally fitted in place of the fan-belt pulley on the front of the engine crankshaft, is standard equipment on certain Fiat and Simca cars.

It consists of an impeller unit, which is keyed to the crankshaft, and a cast aluminium bowl which bolts on to the impeller and is sealed to it by a rubber ring. A groove around the periphery of the impeller accommodates the fan belt whilst the outer member is finnedto impart some oil-cooling effect.

Solid contaminants in the lubricant, which enters the centrifuge through a crankshaft drilling, are flung outwards and adhere to the perimeter of the chamber. The cleaned oil is fed back towards the centre of the centrifuge and returns to the lubrication system. through a second crankshaft bore. The filter is of full-flow type and, when fitted to an engine of 1.5-2-litres capacity, is said to pass the entire sump content every 10 seconds. The Vandervell unit is said to. be cheaper than comparable filters with replaceable elements and to be considerably more efficient than conventional types.
