Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ilk South Wales hauliers are bracing themselves for reduced business from steelmaker Carus with an announcement expected shortly on the future of a key blast furnace in the area.

Llanwern blast furnace number three is due to be relined in 2001; a decision on whether to go ahead with the multi-million-pound investment is expected by the end of August. The high value of the pound and intense competition in the steel sector could swing the decision against Lianwern.

Ditching the investment plans would cut capacity at the plant, which produces three million tonnes of strip steel a year.

This week Corus Iron, Carus Strip Products and Carus Light Strip Products located at Port Talbot and Llanwern launched a cost-cutting programme. Carus claims the cuts will not affect Its output, but 1,300 jobs will go.
