Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Here's a poser for all you anoraks out there. Frank Richards from High Wycombe, Bucks, writes to say that although he enjoyed his visit to this year's Truckfest, there was one nagging question at the back of his mind. How do "spotters" spot? These are the snaps, that he took on the day, of three well known fleets—Stan Robinson, Eddie Stobart and James Irlam—all of which run fan clubs. What is keeping Frank awake at nights is this: "Most of these fleets' working lives are spent trundling along motorways. However, there is no way that pet names or fleet numbers can be seen from the opposite carriageway, and the registration numbers are hidden by the crash barriers along the central reservation. So how is it done?" If you can solve this conundrum and help Frank get a good night's kip, then drop a line to The Hawk.
