Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THIS week's prizewinner is Mr. C. I Martin, of Alresford, nr. Colchester, Essex. When Bedford KGA automatic coupling tractive units are coupled to semi-trailers, he says that drivers have a habit of using the batteries as a step to climb onto the trailer. Vauxhall Motors fit a cover over these, but it is not strong enough to stand the driver's weight.

The remedy? Weld a piece of suitable angle iron to the existing spare wheel carrier to form a step. Since fitting this step Mr. Martin has found that batteries and spare-wheel carriers remain in firstclass condition.

Comments Handyman: I like this idea. Even with the Scammell coupling the driver must still climb up behind the cab to deal with rope, sheet strings, and so on.
