MU-1M April 1, British hauliers opera' ting to the Continent will no longer be required to complete Customs form 29C which deals with the temporary export of a vehicle. This represents a considerable move towards simpler documentation for international haulage and may be regarded as part of the overall policy of Customs and Excise to speed up this class of traffic. Recent examples have been the extension of Long Room facilities at Tilbury and the measures for clearance of containerized traffic at ports other than those of entry.
Simpler paperwork is also to be introduced for Continental hauliers coming to this country. From April 1, no Customs document of any kind need be produced at time of importation; instead, Customs win give the driver of a vehicle a Notice No. 115E indicating the period it may remain in the country and setting out the conditions of temporary importation.
Where the driver is not the owner of the vehicle, he win still be required to produce the written authority of the owner or carrier to drive the vehicle.
