Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE first Bedford chassis designed specifically for bulk-tipper work was announced this week by Vauxhall Motors Ltd. It is based on the TK design and supplements the existing range of Bedford tipper models, having a.12-ft. 7-in, wheelbase and 7 tons nominal capacity.

There are three versions of the new model, two with a vehicle weight of 25,000 lb (11.2 tons) and the third with a gross weight rating of 27,200 lb. (12.2 tons) for specialized tanker bodywork. To make it suitable for tipping applications, the specification includes deep-section, flitch-plated side-members, an engine protection cover and special 18-leaf rear springs, the flitch plates are L shaped and riveted to the side-members extending from the front spring rear hanger to the rear spring front hanger.

Three power units are available--a Bedford 300 Cu. in., 133 b.h.p. petrol or 330 cu. in., 107 b.h.p. diesel and a Leyland 370 cu. in., 108 b.h.p. diesel. Standard transmission is a four-speed synchromesh gearbox with five-speed constant-mesh unit available as an option. The Bedford 18,000 1h. (8.0 ton) single-speed rear axle is standard on all three models with either 18,000 lb. or 20,000 lb, (8.9 tons) two-speed units as options. Braking is by the system used on the TK design with a tandem master cylinder and vacuum assistance with the petrol engine, and an air-pressure servo on the diesel-engine models.

UK list price of the new bulk-load tipper in chassis/cab form and with the 330 Cu. in. petrol engine is £1,158 and for the tanker chassis cab £22 15s. more. With the Bedford 330 cu. in. diesel these prices are increased by £130.
