Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ANNOUNCED this week by AEC Ltd. is the Mammoth Minor—a twin-steer, sixwheeled, tilt-cab tractive unit designed for a gross train weight of 32 tons. It has ground weight ratings of 7 tons on each of the front axles and 10 tons on the rear driving axle and the whole unit has a kerb weight of 5 tons 15 cwt. and a licensing weight of 5 tons 8 cwt. 1 qr. Unladen weight distribution is 4 tons 4 cwt. 2 qr. over the front steering axles and I ton 10 cwt. 2 qr. on the rear axle. r

The new model, which is known as the Type TG6RF, has the AEC 11.31-litre AV691 six-cylinder diesel engine as standard, this developing up to 205 b.h.p. at 2,200 r.p.m., but the 12.47-litre AV760 with a maximum output of 226 b.h.p. is listed as an alternative.

A six-speed overdrive gearbox is fitted and the double-reduction driving axle is offered with ratios of 5.68 : 1, 6.25 1, 7-08 1 or 7.89 : 1. A heavy-duty axle with slightly different ratios is optional, and adds 1 cwt. 2 qr. to the weight.

The front axles are of normal forged I-beam type and the steering gear is cam and double roller, power assisted if required. Air-pressure braking is used, with 15+ in. by 6 in. front drums and 15+ in. by 8 in. rear. An air-assisted handbrake acts on the second' and third axles and there are three-line trailer connections for the air brakes. The channel-section main frame is 12 in. deep with a 3 in. flange, and suspension is by semi-elliptic_ springs at all axles, with telescopic hydraulic dampers on the front axles only.

Tyre equipment on the Mammoth Minor is 10.00-20 of radial steel cord type, singles at the front and twins at the rear. Some operators may find it possible to fit smaller-section tyres at the front axles and thus save more than the 6 cwt. which the Mammoth Minor offers in extra payload capacity compared with a normal doubledrive six-wheeled tractive unit.

The cab is the new Leyland group Ergomatic tilt model introduced at last year's Show and the general specification of this and the accessories and equipment closely follows that of AEC's new-model range.

The wheelbase is 12 ft 2+ in. and the overall length 19 ft. 6 in., giving a cab-torear-axle dimension of 11 ft. 4-1 in. and a clear body space of 13 ft. 111 in. Front and rear overhang are 4 ft. 31in. and 3 ft. respectively and the frame height (unladen) is 3 ft. 71 in. at the front and 3 ft. 8 in. at the rear.

A 48-gal., fuel tank is fitted to the Mammoth Minor and the electrical system is 24V.
