I-1 A SEMI-TRAILER designed as a caravan transporter has recently been built by Carrirnore Six Wheelers, Ltd., for IIexhill Caravan Towing Service, Surrey. The main feature of the unit is that the tracks to take the wheels of the caravans being carried are adjustable for width to cater for the wide range of sizes of caravan made.

The troughs which .form the tracks are mounted on the ends of rectangular tubes which are located between pairs' of channel-section frame crossmembers. These are welded to the tops of the main lonOtudinal members of the frame. When closed up, the overall width of the tracks is 7 ft_ 6 in. (6 ft. 54 in, between centre lines) and, in the fully extended position, the overall width is 9 ft. 6 in.

Detachable ramps hook on to the end of the tracks to facilitate the loading of caravans from the ground and a 2-ton Thompson winch mounted on an extension at the front end of the semi-trailer is provided to pull the caravans on to the unit. Excluding the "imps and the winch platform the semi-trailer has an overall length of 34 ft. 11 in.

A Kart,ier tractive unit with automatic coupling gear is used with the semitrailer.
