• Local residents in Are! and Bute are up in arms over plans by local quarry operator Ennstone Thistle to increase the amount of aggregate it moves by road.
The protest follows an application by Ennstone to vary planning consent for Bonawe Quarry. on the outskirts of Oban. which could see lorry movements aJong a single track road in Argyll jump to 140 return journeys a day.
Objectors have signed a letter of protest, arguing that the existing levels of quarry traffic on the road are already above safe levels. Increasing traffic still further would be "unacceptable", according to the protestors.
