• Northamptonshire police are appealing to hauliers to help trace a man who is wanted in connection with the theft of a truck and its load of wine.

Last year Brian John Mallaby gained employment at a haulage company in Buckinghamshire using the false details of Mark Nolan.

On 6 November 2001 between 20:15hrs and 22:15hrs he parked his lorry in the Red Lion layby at Harpole near J16 of the M1 in Northamptonshire.

During this time Mallaby claimed the trailer and load of 14,784 bottles of Jacobs Creek Shiraz Cabernet, which would retail at over £70,000, was stolen. The next day he disappeared and despite extensive searches officers have been unable to trace him. A police spokesperson says: "He is believed to have been involved in a number of other similar offences nationwide. He could be working at a haulage company. but may be known under another name due to his extensive use of aliases. We have released a photo in the hope someone will know where he is and now come forward."
