• Heavy weighbridges should be installed at all ports, so that commercial vehicles arriving in this country were each automatically weighed to see that they were not overloaded, suggested Mr John Page (Tory, Harrow West) in the Commons.
But Mr Eldon Griffiths, Under-Secretary DoE, rejected the idea. Adequate weighbridges were available at most roll-on/ roll-off ports, he said.
