NATIONAL Bus Company has made several changes in senior staff resulting in Bruce Sellars being promoted to director of administration. Mr Sellars, currently board member for administration, will retain his appointment of secretary of NBC. He was financial director of National Travel from 1973 to 1979 and in his new position he succeeds Ray Sandall who has retired due to ill health.

On May 1 Dave Bending moves from traffic manager with Southdown Motor Services to general manager of South Wales Transport. He succeeds Philip Harmer who recently became general manager of Northern General Transport.

Les Watson, assistant chief engineer of Alder Valley, takes over from Thomas Fox as assistant chief engineer of Ribble Motor Services. Mr Fox was recently appointed chiei engineer of West Yorkshire Road Car.

Sir Ronald Swayne. chairman of Overseas Containers Ltd, will succeed Keith Wickenden, MP, chairman oi European Ferries Ltd, as pre. sident of the Institute of Freight Forwarders. Sir Ronald was a founder director of Overseas Containers in 196E and ten years later becamE chairman. He will be formall5 elected by the Council of thE Institute on April 28. Len Trueman, director of industrial relations for South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive since 1974, retires from the position next month. Mr Truman started his career in the public transport industry 46 years agc when he joined Manchester Corporation.

Obituary

We record with regret thE death in Geneva of Freddie Read-Jahn at 68. He was over seas Press consultant of thE Society of Motor Manufac turers and Traders, having re tired as head of its oversew Press operations in 1977. In thE 1960s, he was SMMT's per manent representative ii Cologne, West Germany.
