MANCHESTER haulier has had his Operators Licence reAced in his absence. Mantex Haulage Ltd failed to turn up at North Western Licensing Authority public inquiry last onth when it sought to renew its licence.

LA Roy Hutchings heard at the fleet was derelict, and Lid there was no question of .newing the licence for five .hicles with three more to be :quired.

Vehicle examiner Roy arnes said he first came .;ross the company in 1978 hen the police reported one ' its vehicles to be in poor )ndition. Although the re)rds showed the vehicles to in a perfect state he issued Lree delayed prohibitions id three defect notices after r.amining four vehicles.

When he again examined the vehicles in June 1979 they had been moved from the company's former Ardwick Green premises to a yard in Old Trafford where there were adequate facilities. Mr Barnes examined five vehicles, imposing one delayed prohibition and three defect notices.

In November 1979 the examiner carried out a further check. He found most of the original fleet derelict — the only vehicle being operated was comparatively new but he had to go to .a lot of trouble to inspect it. Mr Barnes issued a delayed prohibition on this vehicle for a tyre worn below the legal limit and a defect notice for a number of minor items. It seemed that a lack of business was causing a severe cutback in the operation and he could not get any definite idea about the company's future intentions.

Another vehicle examiner then visited the premises soon after and reported that the company appeared to have gone out of business entirely.
