• Croft Backstop has a new Body-Guard system aimed at giving the driver a visible or audible warning if the tipper body is not fully down to the chassis. Once a body has been raised the warning unit pulses every 15 seconds until the body has been lowered fully. In conjunction with Highway Care of Maidstone, Kent, Backstop has also developed a crash cushion for lane closure vehicles that applies the brakes in the event of a rear impact.
• Somerset refrigerated transport specialist JR Harding has boosted its fleet with 10 new 3+3 reefer artic rigs; Volvo H-112-420s and Schmitz Cargobull 33 Europallet semi-trailers. These have Thermo King SMX Smart fridge units with data-logging equipment. The 50-strong fleet, a mix of Foden, Scania and Volvo in twin-steer, pusher and tagaxle Form, will be maintained at Harding's new workshop in Frame.
• Maywood On Board has been acquired by Halma, parent company of Readingbased industrial load cell manufacturer Thames Side Scientific.

Grangemouth has purchased 80 new 12.2m Euroliner curtained swop bodies From E1P of Rotherham for use on its UK-European ferry services.
• Vauxhall has increased some light CV prices by an average of 1.7% with effect from 19 August. Brava pickup and Midi van prices are unaffected but Corsavan, Combo and Astravan prices will all rise.
