Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A wave of hauliers have come forward in support of Boltonbased haulier Ken Harvey, who is ready to go to jail rather than p4 penalty parking charges of up to £90 imposed by Granada Service Stations (CM 8-14 April).

Among those responding to an issue which is causing concern and confusion nationwide is Nottingham-based haulier Alex Peel, who says he is awaiting the court summons for the unpaid charge he collected on 29 March "with relish".

"I believe that what Granada is doing is unfair at best," he says. "By going to court we may have the chance to end these charges. "Peel says he is espe

cially concerned about Granada's offer of a £6 meal voucher for drivers who pay for a 210 parking ticket at their stations.

The Granada penalty charges are issued when these parking fees are not paid by drivers. "I object to the meal voucher as I already pay my drivers night-out money," he explains. "This is an extra charge for employers and also needs to be challenged."

Other hauliers prepared to take the fight to Granada include Falkland Haulage of Newbury and Dennis Transport of Swansea, as well as a number of owner-drivers based between Bedford and Falkirk.
