Assaults down

THE number of assaults on London Transport bus crews fell to 180 in the first nine months of this year, a reduction of 70 per cent on the 595 assaults in the .same period last year, reported Home Secretary Mr Roy Jenkins in the Commons last week.

The monthly average of some 24 assaults in the first six months of this year had fallen to some 11 assaults per month in the four months to the end of October, he added.

Tours combine THE TOURS programmes of the National Bus Company's western subsidiaries have now been combined and a new advertising brochure issued. The former tour programmes of South Wales Transport and Western Welsh have been cornbined with those of Greenslades, Wessex National, Shamrock and Rambler, and Hants and Dorset.

New departures next year include a four-day tour at £44.50 to Ascot Races, which includes admission and packed meals, and a five-day tour visiting all the narrow gauge railways in Wales for £64.

Auto option

BEDFORD is planning to offer an Allison fully automatic transmission as an option in the new YMT and YLQ coach chassis. This is intended to make the vehicles more suitable for bus work in urban areas and follows requests from some independent bus operators.

The transmission is not new to Bedford coaches as a batch of automatic YRTs were exported to Australia some years ago.
