Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Establishing a business in the United Kingdom third edition, by R M Cooke and D C Borer. Published by the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Chartered Accountants Hall, Moorgate Place, London EC2P 2BJ. This is an excellent and exhaustive reference book — one would be hard pressed to think of an issue it does not cover.

• Business start-up checklist by D R Philip and S D Eldred, Accountants digest 198. Published by the Institute of Chartered Accountants at the above address. A quick, easy reference booklet full of useful information. It is well worth reading for a series of 1 3 checklists which the potential entrepreneur should work through before passing go. It is succinct and readable.

• Lloyds Bank, the Not West and — to a lesser extent — the Midland produce illuminating advice leaflets on how to get your business off the ground. All are clear-cut summaries of the procedures involved. The best on offer are Lloyds Starting your business, Services to business and Expanding your business; the Nat West's Start up and go and Presenting your case; and the Midland's Finance for business. All are available free of charge at your local High Street branches.
