QUOTA GOES • British and Irish lorry operators can now make as many journeys as they wish between Britain and Eire, though they will still need permits.
The quota on the number of lorry journeys permitted annually between the two countries has been abolished. At a meeting between British and Irish officials last month, it was decided that, although permits would still be required for journeys between the two countries, there would be no limit on numbers.
As a result British hauliers will not now be required to fill in journey record sheets. Whenever possible hauliers will be encouraged to use permits valid for several journeys. For more details phone 01-212 3434.
