Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FREE PCs • ( ',Si, the motor trade computer management service company, is offering free computers to customers taking part in its Bureau Service.

The personal computers are being installed on a free loan basis to speed the efficiency of the GSi Stock Control Service.

The new service, called ComputerPad, dispenses with the need to write all parts transactions onto forms at the end of each day. The information is now keyed into ComputerPad and automatically transmitted to the company's mainframe computer once every two weeks. The processed information, which includes an updated stock inventory, recommended stock order and management reports, is then sent to the dealer in printed form within 24 hours.

The dealer is free to use the computer for his own programs in addition to the ComputerPad Service. There is no charge for the equipment but a refundable deposit of 2400 against damage or mis

use is required as well as a service charge of £29 per month.

For more information contact GSi (UK) Ltd, Stanhope Road, Camberley, Surrey. Telephone (0276) 62282.

SMALL FLEET CHOICE • Operators with small fleets are now being offered the Choice Vehicle Management system at a cost of around 2500, including training.

The Choice system, which runs on a standard office microcomputer, provides access to performance data on every vehicle in the fleet: Which vehicles are due for taxing and testing, or routine maintenance? How much fuel is each one using? What components go wrong on which models, and how much do they cost?

The Choice system was originally developed to run on substantial mini-computers, and is already in use with many big fleet operators including the BBC, British Aerospace, Tetley Walker and SPD.

Features of the original Choice carried over into the new range include Freeform Reporting, an easy-to-use method for operators to extract information they need at the time they need it. And there is ample scope for them to define their own headings for the information they record (each file has about 20% of "spare" fields). There is an upper limit to the fleet size, but each category has a margin built in; the smallest version can cope with up to 40 vehicles. The next version, costing £1,000, handles 100 vehicles. For up to 250 vehicles the price is 22,000, for up to 500 vehicles 23,000 and for more than 500 £4,000. For more details phone 01-761 7823.
