AThe speed limit for a goods vehicle towing

a trailer on roads other than a motorway is 30 m.p.h. But a goods vehicle up to 3 tons unladen may draw at 40 m.p.h. a trailer up to 5 cwt. unladen or 15 cwt. unladen if not constructed for the carriage of goods.

On motorways vehicles towing two-wheeled trailers or close coupled four-wheeled trailers are limited to 40 m.p.h.

A statutory attendant must be carried whenever a vehicle draws a trailer but there some exceptions, such as a trailer fitted with permanent plant and not exceeding 45 cwt. gross weight.
