A NOTHER CITY to take a radical look PS. at its transport department following a thange in political control is Leeds, where the new transport committee chairman, Cllr. D. A. Wolstenholme, has announced the first of new economy measures.
He said that on taking over he had to grapple with a situation in which the department was losing £10,000 a week, but stated that bus fares would only be increased as a last resort.
The transport traffic sub-committee has just approved a plan for rationalizing bus services to Halton, Temple Newsam, Whitkirk and Colton, which is expected to save £15,000 a year by merging four services into three, while at the same time giving an improved service.
Meanwhile the general manager and city architect will re-examine plans for the proposed new garage at Bramley with the aim of reducing the capital cost of £611,000.
